Artist Suzanne Cody Adams, who signs her work SCody, conveys the mysterious beauty of nature in her plant portraits. She goes deeper than color and shape to show the texture, structure and soul of her subjects in fine detail and classic simplicity. The portraits are executed in colored pencil, using a technique similar to dry-brush watercolor with many layers applied individually and are created over 50 to 60 hours of intense concentration and meticulous attention to detail.

Suzanne is a member of the American Society of Botanical Artists and the Colored Pencil Society of America. She first studied Botanical Illustration with Nancy Baron in San Francisco, California, focusing on drawing and watercolor. She developed dry-brush watercolor technique in San Francisco and Antigua, Guatemala with Michele Meyer, past President and Executive Director of the American Society of Botanical Artists. Suzanne’s colored pencil technique has developed into a highly individual style.

Her work is seen on the front and back covers of the Idlewild Park Trees – Self-Guided Walking Tours of Reno’s Arboretum. She has also shown her drawings and paintings in several shows and galleries in the Reno area and has taught Botanical Art in her studio, the local community college and through VSArts in Reno.

Suzanne’s creativity goes beyond artistic endeavors. She has a Master of Science Degree and twenty-two years of technical experience in software development and management. She is a prolific inventor with seven patents for integrated chip technology use on the Internet.

Suzanne lives in Reno with her husband, Carl, two feline friends (HiJinks and StarShine), and a multitude of indoor plants. She is a certified Master Gardener and Nursery Worker, the 2003/2004 chair of the Reno Urban Forestry Commission, and a former member of the Nevada Shade Tree Council. She has taught art and gardening classes through Truckee Meadows Community College since 2002.
